American Psychiatric Publishing (APP) was founded in 1981 as a division of the American Psychiatric Association to distribute the association’s publications and to publish other, independent titles. At 33 years old, the publisher is relatively young compared to the association, which dates back to 1844 and now boasts more than 35,000 members. Over the past 12 months, we have received 18 APP titles and have published reviews of 13 of them, with four still out for review. With the release of the fifth edition of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in 2013, four of the titles we received related to different aspects of DSM-5. Doody’s Core Titles 2014 includes 16 APP titles, and not just in psychiatry. Several of the titles were selected as core titles in clinical psychology, pediatrics, and general medicine. As expected, the DSM-5 and the sixth edition of The American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Psychiatry are on the list. Many of the APP books are available on their proprietary website, PsychiatryOnline.org along with journals and professional development tools. PsychiatryOnline is also one of our ebook discoverability partners, providing links from titles at Doody’s Review Service and Doody’s Core Titles directly to information about the online versions.
