The annual Doody’s Core Titles list is the result of a rigorous selection and scoring process. At the end of the first phase, which involves selections from specialty experts and health sciences librarians, there are usually several hundred (and sometimes over 1,000!) titles that do not score high enough in the second phase to qualify for the final list. Using a scoring system ensures that the final list remains purposeful and functional for even the smallest health sciences libraries. But the tradeoff is that many wonderful and pertinent titles don’t make the cut. Below are twelve titles that publishers nominated for the list that didn’t quite make it, but you should definitely know about.
