Joan MacEachen, MD, MPH
Family Medicine Physician
Indian Health Service
Dr. Joan MacEachen has been a Doody’s Review Service book reviewer since September 2019. She reviews public health titles with Editorial Review Group Chair, Dr. Barbara A. Anderson. In addition to contributing two dozen book reviews, Dr. MacEachen also served as the Content Specialist in Health Policy for Doody’s Core Titles 2025.
Dr. MacEachen has worked as a family medicine physician with the Indian Health Service for 38 years. She achieved her Master in Public Health degree to enable her to evaluate and implement community aspects into her work. Dr. MacEachen’s public health professor, Dr. Barbara Anderson, invited her to participate as a Doody’s reviewer for recently published books on public health and maternal childcare. She enjoys reading the books cover-to-cover and then considers where each would be most valued.
Dr. MacEachen was especially honored and challenged to participate in the writing of Maternal Health and American Cultural Values: Beyond the Social Determinants (Springer, 2023) edited by Dr. Anderson and Dr. Lisa Roberts (another Doody’s reviewer!). This book serves to enlighten the perspective and enhance the knowledge base of anyone involved in obstetric care.
