Crystal Plank has been reviewing for Doody’s Review Service since 2017. Plank has reviewed 25 books under Editorial Review Group Chair for Geriatric and Long Term Care Nursing and University of Missouri colleague, Dr. Marilyn Rantz. Two of Plank’s reviewed titles are featured in Doody’s Core Titles 2023, Integrated Care and Fall Prevention in Active and Healthy Aging, Eklund (IGI Global, 2021) and Evidence-Based Geriatric Nursing Protocols for Best Practice, 6th Edition, Boltz (Springer Publishing, 2021).

Plank has worked in Long Term Care (LTC) for the past 25 years and is currently providing quality improvement consultation assistance to skilled nursing facilities in the Central and Northeast regions in Missouri as part of the Quality Improvement Program for Missouri (QIPMO). Her vast experience includes being a Medicare Specialist, Denial Management Coordinator, MDS Coordinator, Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), and Director of Nursing (DON). Her in-depth knowledge is concentrated in state and federal regulations, LTC infection control practices, and all aspects of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process. She has expertise in MDS 3.0, reimbursement (Medicare and Medicaid), and LTC regulatory compliance. She has her Resident Assessment Coordinator-Certified Advanced certification and Infection Preventionist certification.

Plank enjoys reviewing books for Doody because it gives her the opportunity to review the most current information available in her specialty field. It allows her to contribute a beneficial synopsis to help readers evaluate if the book will meet their needs. It also enables her to contribute to the healthcare field in a diverse way.

One of the most memorable books that she reviewed, Nursing & Health Dementia Care Survival Guide, lived up to its name as a survival guide. She uses this resource as a guide for educating other caregivers in dementia care. It is written in a manner that makes it easy to use in the nursing practice and has allowed others to benefit from the information within this book. If Crystal had not reviewed this book, she says she would have missed a great opportunity. She hopes her review leads others to benefit from this resource as much as she has.
