Since 2001, Dr. Jeffrey Apfelbaum has served as Editorial Review Group Chair in Anesthesiology for Doody’s Review Service, volunteering his time and expertise for 14 years, far beyond his original commitment of three years. Over those years, we have sent him 595 books and he has overseen 342 reviews — and counting. The reviews were written by Dr. Apfelbaum or one of the 22 reviewers he has recruited.
Dr. Apfelbaum is Professor of Anesthesia and Critical Care and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Chicago Medical Center and the Pritzker School of Medicine. Dr. Apfelbaum serves on the Medical Staff Executive Committee of the University of Chicago Medical Center, the Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago Practice Plan and as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, is the current Chair of the Illinois State Medical Licensing Board. Dr. Apfelbaum received his medical training at Northwestern University School of Medicine (1978), followed by internship at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital (1979), and residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (1981). His fellowship in ambulatory anesthesia and clinical research was conducted at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (1983). Dr. Apfelbaum is a past president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the Chair of the ASA Committee on Standards and Practice Parameters.
