Editor’s Note: One of the hallmarks of Doody’s Core Titles is the number of individuals who contribute to its development year after year, including health sciences Librarian Selectors, Content Specialists, medical book distributors, and the staff of Doody Enterprises, Inc. Their belief in the importance of this endeavor and willingness to offer expert analysis is critical to DCT’s success. Because of the cumulative efforts of over 180 individuals, we are able to produce a reliable list of core titles in just over two months every year. With gratitude, this month we present the profile of Marie St. Pierre of Children’s Hospital Colorado, who has served as a Librarian Selector for Doody’s Core Titles and a List Selector for Doody’s Special Topics Lists

Where do you currently work and what is your position?

I am a medical librarian/informationist at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Provide a brief description of your library and its services.

We are a full-service library. We do literature searches, some systematic reviews, and participate in various committees.

When did you start in medical librarianship? What was your position? With what institution?

I have been here in my current role since 2007. I started my career at Children’s, but have expanded my skills and duties over the years. A medical library will have to change over time to meet the current needs of the staff it serves.

Name two of the most important issues facing medical librarianship today.

As health care moves more into informatics, a general knowledge of what that is and what data goes into it will be important for medical librarians. This goes hand in hand with evidence-based practice. Evidence-based practice for medical staff is well established, but now this is catching fire with other health specialties such as audiology or similar. Librarians should be knowledgeable and able to provide good resources and literature reviews for EBP.

Why do you select for Doody’s Core Titles? How about Doody’s Special Topics Lists?

I have selected for DCT for many years now and, just this past year, have been chosen to work on a Special Topics List. These are valuable experiences to participate in as they give you a more in-depth look at the books you are selecting, making you more aware of how you choose material for your library.

What is one thing you want to make sure all librarians know about Doody’s services?

The Doody’s services are a great help.
