Dr. Naomi Scheinerman has been a Doody’s Review Service book reviewer since 2024. She reviews titles in our medical ethics specialty under Editorial Review Group Chair Dr. Ryan Nash. 

Dr. Scheinerman is an assistant professor of bioethics at The Ohio State University. Her background is in political and democratic theory, with experience in law, public policy, and philosophy. In addition to deliberative democracy, she works on questions of exploitation and consent, including those on such topics as prenatal genetic testing, gestational surrogacy, reproductive rights, paid participation for clinical trials, egg and organ donation, and newborn screening. Prior to joining the faculty at OSU, she was a postdoctoral fellow in genetics and genomics at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Medical Ethics and Healthcare Policy and the AI joint fellow-in-residence at Harvard’s EJS Center for Ethics and Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society.  

Reviewing books for Doody’s allows her to stay on top of recent publications in bioethics and understand recent trends and developments in the field. About one such recent book, Tackle Football and Traumatic Brain Injuries: Law, Ethics, and Public Health by Daniel S. Goldberg (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2024), Dr. Scheinerman shares it “was a delight to review and added to my own thinking about regulatory approaches to medicine and the use of language around evidence.”
