Dr. Karim Makhoul has been a Doody’s Review Service book reviewer since 2023. He reviews titles in our neurology specialty under Editorial Review Group Chair Dr. Stephanie Nahas.
Dr. Karim Makhoul is a neurologist with advanced fellowship training in movement disorders from Baylor College of Medicine. He is well known for leadership, innovation, and academic initiative. Dr. Makhoul is currently completing neurology clinical training at Northwell Health, where he contributes to research involving gait kinematics and early Parkinsonian biomarkers, along with ongoing involvement in medical education and scholarly activities with active publications and conference presentations.
Dr. Makhoul is known for his ability to build collaborative academic structures. He founded the Northwell Neurology Resident Research Association, an initiative designed to expand research engagement, promote mentorship, and strengthen the scholarly mission within neurology training programs. His work has encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration and has been recognized for its creative approach to strengthen research culture in academic medicine.
Dr. Makhoul has enjoyed being a Doody’s reviewer in neurology. Doing so has allowed him to stay connected to the evolving neurologic scholarly activities and permitted him to take a step forward and recognize any possible gaps that can help further develop the academic nature of neurology.
One of the books that caught his attention is Movement Disorders Phenomenology: Therapy and Management (Springer, 2024), an artistic compilation of movement disorder cases that blends scientific rigor with the feeling of a 360-degree, fully immersive clinical encounter, something rarely achieved by other books.
