Dr. Timothy Legg has been a Doody’s Review Service book reviewer since 2023. He reviews books in psychiatry and a variety of nursing specialties under Editorial Review Group Chair, Kelly Conway, DNP, CNS. Since joining her, Dr. Legg has reviewed an astounding 45 titles. Three of his reviewed titles appear on Doody’s Core Titles 2024: Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing: Integrating Psychotherapy, Psychopharmacology, and Complementary and Alternative Approaches Across the Life Span, 3rd Edition, Tusaie (Wolters Kluwer, 2023), Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, 9th Edition, Videbeck (Wolters Kluwer, 2023), and Evaluation and Testing in Nursing Education, 7th Edition, Oermann (Springer Publishing, 2025). 

Dr. Legg has over 30 years of experience in the provision of mental health care and services to individuals across a variety of settings, including personal care facilities, nursing homes, inpatient psychiatric units, children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, outpatient community mental health, dual-diagnosis, intensive outpatient, inpatient detox, correctional facilities, and New York State Comprehensive Psychiatry Emergency Programs (CPEP). He has held various positions, including staff nurse, psychiatric nurse practitioner, psychotherapist, drug and alcohol counselor, clinical supervisor, clinic director, and clinical consultant. Dr. Legg is a licensed psychologist, a licensed professional counselor, and a licensed/board-certified psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner as well as a gerontological nurse practitioner in private practice in Northeastern Pennsylvania. He provides a combination of psychotherapy and medication management services to individuals who struggle with psychiatric/mental health challenges. Dr. Legg also offers medication-assisted treatment for individuals who struggle with opioid use disorder. He also provides consultative services to various agencies/organizations that provide care to older adults.  

Dr. Legg currently serves as a member of the editorial board for The Carlat Addiction Treatment Report, a peer-reviewed publication for addiction professionals, and The Carlat Psychotherapy Report, a peer-reviewed publication for psychotherapists. He also serves on the editorial review boards for the Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research, as well as the Journal of Addictions Nursing. In addition, he maintains active membership in the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). 

In addition to his formal academic training, Dr. Legg has completed training in rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) at the Albert Ellis Institute, has earned the designation of master psychopharmacologist through the Neuroscience Education Institute, and has completed Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training through the EMDR Institute. He is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Level II (CCTP-II) through the International Association of Trauma Professionals. He also holds multiple certifications in advanced practice gerontological, psychiatric, and public health nursing.  

Dr. Legg’s research has focused on the use of psychoanalysis as a treatment for addictive disorders. He has published on a variety of topics in mental health and gerontology, including neurocognitive disorders, health promotion in old age, psychopharmacology in the geriatric population, as well as drugs of abuse.
