This month’s specialty profile covers the second issue in our fourth volume of Doody’s Special Topics Lists: Trust & Distrust in Health Care.
Considering the recent global pandemic that claimed thousands of lives and the ever-increasing use of artificial intelligence, weariness in health care continues to grow. Even before the dawn of ubiquitous health information available via the Internet, health care was plagued by biases and business practices that raised ethical concerns. The historical fluctuations of trust in health care resonate with contemporary ones evident in vaccine hesitancy and fake news. This ultimately leads to a question of authority: Who is empowered to make the most informed and appropriate decision for a patient’s health? Who can one trust?
Attempting to grapple with these questions is the purpose of this Doody’s Special Topics List. This list of hand-selected titles explores topics such as misinformation in health care, health and media literacy, conspiracies, impact of racism, religion, and politics on medicine. With this list, we hope to equip libraries with ideas for resources to help patients and providers alike enable trust in health care.
This Doody’s Special Topics List is comprised of 56 titles from 27 different publishers. The prices of these titles range from $14.99 to $695 with an average cost of $82.84.
