From small-time booksellers to worldwide publishers, the Karger family has come a long way since their humble beginnings. Founded in 1890 in Berlin, Germany, Samuel Karger launched his publishing company devoted to books focused on medicine and science. Over 130 years later and several generations down the Karger family tree, Karger Publishers has gone global, now headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, and servicing in 15 countries. The Karger publishing program offers a plethora of health sciences resources, including over 100 peer-reviewed journals and over 9,000 books, all of which are also available digitally.

Since our last profile, we’ve received 216 Karger titles and have published 116 reviews. Doody’s Core Titles 2022 features three Karger titles, including Nutritional Care of Preterm Infants: Scientific Basis and Practical Guidelines, 2nd Edition, which was given a review score of 95/100.
