Anne Mackereth has served as Editorial Review Group Chair for Alternative Therapies for Doody’s Review Service since September 2015. She is in a unique position, serving as director of library services for Northwestern Health Sciences University, which offers accredited programs in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Applied Clinical Nutrition, Chiropractic, Massage Therapy, and Undergraduate Health Sciences/Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Health. On her watch, she has organized reviews of 48 of the 68 books we have sent her in various areas in Alternative Therapies. She has recruited 24 different reviewers from her institution to evaluate the books.

She was appointed director of library services at Northwestern Health Sciences University’s Greenawalt Library in March 2013. She began her career at the Greenawalt Library in 2001 as Public Services Librarian. Prior to that, she was a librarian at the Minnesota Department of Transportation for 10 years and is grateful that pavement type is no longer a focus of her job. Anne received her bachelor’s degree from The College of St. Catherine in 1990 and her master’s degree in library science from the University of Arizona in 2000.

She enjoys coordinating reviews with the assistance of program deans. While it was difficult initially to solicit reviewers, faculty now stop her in the hall and ask when they will be able to review a book next. Anne says they really seem to enjoy the process once they become familiar with it. And the fact they get to keep the book (she adds the other copy to her library collection) is icing on the cake!
