Since late 2009, Amy Hess Fischl has served as Editorial Review Group Chair in Nutrition/ Dietetics for Doody’s Review Service. Over the subsequent eight years, we have sent her 235 titles and she has coordinated reviews of 145 of them. Although she recruited 17 reviewers to assist, she has written 99 of the reviews.
Ms. Hess Fischl is an advanced practice dietitian and coordinator for the University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center Teen Transition program, a unique diabetes program for adolescents and teens with diabetes. She speaks internationally on all diabetes topics, particularly about children and teens with diabetes, meal planning with diabetes, insulin pumps, and continuous glucose monitors. She was named 2009 Diabetes Educator of the Year for Diabetes Care and Education (DCE), a practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, received the 2015 Distinguished Service Award, and is a past chair of DCE. She was on the writing group for the joint statement for Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) and is currently on the writing group for updating the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education.
