Since October of 1999, Dr. Valerie Ng has been the Editorial Review Group Chair for both Laboratory Medicine and Laboratory Technology for Doody’s Review Service – and she has authored almost all of the reviews. We have sent her 432 books over the past 16-plus years and she is responsible for writing all but four of the 317 reviews we have published.

Dr. Ng is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, UCSF, and is currently Chair, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology; Director, Clinical Laboratory; and Director, Transfusion Service at Alameda Health System/Highland Hospital in Oakland, California.

Previously, she had a 17-year academic career in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at UCSF. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly known as NCCLS; 2006-2012) and completed a seven-year stint on the National Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC, 2000-2007). She remains a member of the external advisory board for the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy (2001-present), was appointed to the California Hospital Association’s Hospital Laboratory Workforce Initiative (9/2015-present), and remains a consultant for the Hematology and Microbiology Devices Panel in the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health. She consults for Mbio, BioRad and Abbott Hematology.
