This May will mark Dr. Robert Arensman’s 22nd anniversary of reviewing Pediatric Surgery titles for Doody’s Review Service – we sent him his first shipment of books in May of 1993. Over the years, we have sent him 129 books and he has gotten reviews of 119 of them. He personally has reviewed 116 of the 119 titles.

Dr. Arensman is currently division head and J. Radhakrishnan Professor of Pediatric Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Illinois at Chicago

After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Medicine with his MD in 1969, he completed a general surgery residency at UIC, followed by two 2-year training periods at National Children’s Medical Center and Boston Children’s Hospital in pediatric surgery. He opened the division of pediatric surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans and headed that division for 12 years. Subsequently, he served as pediatric surgeon-in-chief at Wyler Children’s Hospital, University of Chicago, and Children’s Memorial Hospital, Northwestern University. His major area of clinical research is extracorporeal life support (ECMO) applications, uses, and modifications.
