Since it published the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics in 1913 as a marketing tool to sell rubber aprons to chemistry laboratories, CRC Press has gone through a remarkable series of acquisitions and mergers to arrive at its current incarnation as the principal science and technology book division of the Taylor & Francis Group, an Informa Company. First, in 2003 CRC Press became a member of the Taylor & Francis publishing group, which can trace its roots back to 1783. CRC Press then benefitted from the independent 2004 merger of Taylor & Francis with Informa. Late in 2012, CRC Press reintroduced medicine into its catalogue with Informa Healthcare books and the acquired Hodder Arnold medical line. Additional acquisitions in this area included Marcel Dekker Publishing and Quality Medical Publishing. Finally, the 2013 acquisition of Manson Publishing positioned CRC Press as a veterinary publisher.

Over the past year, we have received 160 CRC Press/Taylor & Francis Group titles in 51 basic science, clinical medicine, nursing, allied health, and veterinary medicine specialties, with a quarter of those arriving in the past month or so. We have published reviews of 66 of them, with 37 still out for review. Doody’s Core Titles 2014 features 41 CRC Press/Taylor & Francis Group titles in 28 specialties, including two each in Critical Care and Trauma Surgery. Five titles were designated as Essential Purchase Titles.

The ebook platform for CRC Press, CRCnetBASE, is our most recent addition to the 20+ publisher and aggregator vendors who offer e-versions of titles appearing on the Doody’s Core Titles list and in Doody’s Review Service.
