American Psychiatric Association Publishing was founded in 1981 as a division of the American Psychiatric Association to distribute the association’s publications and to publish other, independent titles. It now publishes books, journals, and multimedia on psychiatry, mental health, and behavioral science geared toward psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, psychiatric residents, medical students, and the general public. The American Psychiatric Association, which dates back to 1844, now boasts more than 37,000 members practicing in more than 100 countries.
Since APA Publishing became a participating publisher in 1993, we have received 915 titles and published expert reviews of 649 of them in Doody’s Review Service. Since we last profiled APA Publishing in 2014, we have received 198 titles and reviewed 109 of them. Just recently, we received the latest revision of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the DSM-5-TR, along with various related publications, which are now out for review. The just released Doody’s Core Titles 2022 features 21 APA Publishing titles, six of which were deemed Essential Purchase titles.
