Dr. Brian D. Schwartz is one of our newest Editorial Review Group Chairs, having joined Doody’s Review Service as the Medical Education & Informatics Chair in June 2020. He is a former reviewer and colleague of the previous Chair for the specialty, Frank Ritchel Ames.

Dr. Schwarz is an associate professor of medical humanities and the director of the Frank Ritchel Ames Memorial Library at Rocky Vista University. Dr. Schwartz directs the two-branch library on the RVU campuses in Denver and Southern Utah. He is also the lead professor of the evidence-based medicine courses in RVU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and the university’s Physician Assistant and Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences programs.

Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of the University of Kansas, Denver University, and Emporia State University. His dissertation research centered around the epistemological foundation of the teaching of information-seeking behaviors to medical students and has resulted in consulting and faculty development teaching opportunities from various medical schools nationwide.

Dr. Schwartz has published in Medical Reference Services Quarterly, Colorado Libraries, Distance Learning, Frontiers in Public Health, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, and others. He has presented at conferences for AACOM, the Gold Foundation for the Medical Humanities, the Association of Library and Information Science Educators, the Medical Librarian Association, the Special Library Association, the Colorado Council of Medical Libraries, the Colorado Association of Libraries, OPTI-West research day, the Colorado Osteopathic Society, and RVU Diversity Week, and has received multiple grants from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation. His joint presentation at the Special Library Association received Top Ten Honors as one of the highest-rated presentations at the conference. He has additionally been a keynote or plenary speaker at regional and national conferences.

His academic interests include the confluence of evidence-based medicine and information literacy, as well as problem-solving and information-seeking processes, health information literacy, social determinants of health, and the application of educational theory.
