Sam Beavin, MD
Assistant Professor
Division of Nephrology, Bone and Mineral Metabolism
University of Kentucky College of Medicine
Dr. Sam Beavin became the Editorial Review Group Chair for Nephrology for Doody’s Review Service in 2024. He succeeded Dr. Jon Webb under whom he penned several reviews in 2023. To date, Dr. Beavin and his team have reviewed all the titles assigned to them, a huge feat for any review group.
Dr. Beavin received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky and completed residency in internal medicine, followed by a combined fellowship in nephrology and critical care medicine, also at the University of Kentucky. He is now in his second year on faculty with the Department of Nephrology. His work focuses on ICU nephrology and cardiorenal medicine, including the development of a dedicated Cardiorenal Service, as well as clinical education and teaching in the College of Medicine.
On why he serves as an ERG Chair and reviewer for Doody’s Review Service, Dr. Beavin shares, “I’ve always enjoyed reading, writing, and thinking critically. I’ve often said that if I weren’t in medicine, my dream job would be as a film critic. The opportunity to review textbooks is a wonderful outlet for those interests. It also serves as a great way to stay up to date in the field, and I’ve particularly enjoyed seeing the changes in new editions of classic textbooks like Kidney Transplantation or Handbook of Dialysis.”
