We have been fortunate to have Dr. Thomas Pazdernik serve as Editorial Review Group Chair in Pharmacology since 2002. Over those 13 years, we have sent him 456 books and he has overseen reviews of 301 of them. Dr. Pazdernik is an active reviewer, contributing 124 reviews, but he also has successfully recruited 56 colleagues to review as well.
Dr. Pazdernik is a Chancellor’s Club Teaching Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Therapeutics at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). He obtained his BS degree in Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota, PhD from the University of Kansas in Medicinal Chemistry, and neuropharmacology training from the University of Helsinki, Finland. He joined the faculty at KUMC in 1973 and has directed courses in pharmacology and toxicology for students in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Health Professions, and Graduate School. In 2006, he initiated new instructor-facilitated independent pharmacology courses for nurse anesthesia students. He currently spends considerable effort in maintaining and developing the department’s computer-based education programs to support the education of medical students and other health professionals. His research has focused on organic synthesis, immunopharmacology/toxicology, and neuropharmacology/toxicology. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research articles, several book chapters, and is coauthor of Rapid Review Pharmacology, 3rd edition (Elsevier, 2011). He has received the Best Nursing Educator Award (1982), Ruth Bohan Award (1992), Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award (1997) Kemper Fellowships (2002; 2007), Chancellor’s Club Teaching Professorship (2007), and Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award “THE JAYHAWK” (2012), as well as over 35 Student Voice, individual, or best course awards from the medical students.
