Introduction

In April of 2021, I reviewed STAT!Ref® for Doody’s Collection Development Monthly. Read that review here

Content

STAT!Ref® Online, The Premier Healthcare e-Resource and a product of Teton Data Systems, is an electronic books platform with a library of over 600 titles in various health specialties, including dentistry, emergency medicine, nursing, pharmacology, and pediatrics.

Since the review was published in April 2021, STAT!Ref® has added 200 more resources to the collection. Many of the titles in STAT!Ref® are also in the Doody’s Core Title List. STAT!Ref® has publications from various professional organizations, including the American Joint Committee on Cancer, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Joint Commission.

Some newer titles include Treating Alcohol and Drug Problems in Psychotherapy Practice: Doing What Works (Guilford Press, 2022), Core Curriculum for Interdisciplinary Lactation Care (Jones & Bartlett, 2024), and Military Psychology: Clinical and Operational Application (Guilford Press, 2022). 2023 editions include: Introduction to Nursing Research: Incorporating Evidence-Based Practice (Jones & Bartlett, 2023), CDT: Current Dental Terminology (ADA, 2023), Red Book Atlas of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (AAP, 2023), Joint Commission and CMS Crosswalk: Comparing Hospital Standards and CoPs (JCR, 2023), and the Washington Manual© of Medical Therapeutics (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2023).

Features/Functionality

STAT!Ref® eBooks can be integrated into your Library Management System catalog, and their records are available in OCLC’s Collection Manager. In addition, STAT!Ref® resources can be incorporated into federated search services including:

EBSCO Full Text Finder
Serial Solutions 360
TDNet
OVID

As part of a subscription with STAT!Ref®, users can sign up for a personal account. One benefit of an account is access to STAT!Ref® Mobile. The app allows users to access all resources in your library’s collection from a smartphone or tablet. The Anywhere Login Account provides all the functionality of the desktop version on a mobile device. Your institution chooses the timeframe in which users need to reauthenticate their Anywhere Login Account. Once users enable the app, they will receive an e-mail reminder telling them it’s time to reauthenticate. They do this by simply logging into their STAT!Ref® personal account via the institution’s IP range. This cannot be done on the app.

All STAT!Ref® subscriptions come with AAFP Conditions A-Z, EBMcalc Complete Edition, and other features and enhancements.

Business Model

Agreements are still set up on an annual basis. STAT!Ref® offers core collections in 15 disciplines, including infectious disease, nutrition and dietetics, oncology, psychiatry, public health, and surgery. An a la carte model is also available for purchasing titles from one, two, five, seven, 10, and 15 concurrent users, and then in increments of five. Please note that some titles have limited concurrent users, as directed by individual publishers.

The pricing for STAT!Ref® products is affordable and competitive with other eBook vendors. Usage data can be provided by STAT!Ref® representatives on a regular basis, or library staff can pull statistics reports through the STAT!Ref® portal.

Breakthrough

STAT!Ref® continues to offer flexible and affordable eBook resources. All interactions with staff at Teton Data Systems have been positive. They assisted with a complicated access requirement and were very responsive when working with the library and our institution’s IT department.

Excellent article. The author has great credentials and writes with expertise and a wide range of experience and knowledge. Ms. Mulcahy provides invaluable information to medical library personnel. As a retired librarian from Cleveland Public Library in Cleveland, Ohio, I found the article to be very enlightening.
